PORTSMOUTH

Portsmouth is a city on the south coast of England in the county of Hampshire. Nelson's famous flagship, the HMS Victory is housed at the very large port and it has the worlds oldest dry dock and the Royal Navy maintains a significant base there.

The newly built Spinnaker Tower which was designed to look like a ship's sail is located in the Gunwharf Quays is an impressive addition to the local skyline.

Portsmouth is surrounded by towns like Waterlooville, Havant, Stubbington, Portchester which as a whole has a population twice the size of Portsmouth itself.

Portsmouth has an anchient and proud naval history and was sacked by the French in 1338 but it's proudest moment came when Lord Nelson sailed out in command of the English fleet to that fateful meeting with the French/Spanish fleet at Trafalgar.
